Sonic Birthday Cake
No Sonic the Hedgehog party is complete without a Sonic cake or cupcake platter. However, a Sonic-themed cake can be hard to find. If you’d rather leave the cake-making to the professionals, talk to your local bakery. However, this is probably going to be the most expensive option. If you prefer to make a cake from scratch, here are a few ideas for creating showstopping Sonic the Hedgehog birthday cakes.
Sonic the Hedgehog Image Cake
To create a truly unique and cool looking cake consider using an edible image cake topper. You simply bake a cake as you normally would and ice with white icing. You than transfer one of the following image toppers to the top of the cake. The image topper is edible and become part of the cake! The great thing about these image toppers is that you can customize them for your child's name and age (if desired).
Simple Sonic cake
Note: this cake option is rather complex but if you can pull it off it'll look amazing! You can make a simple Sonic character cake using an ordinary round, eight-inch pan. Bake two cakes, and use the first one for Sonic’s face. Cut the second cake in half, and cut one of the halves into three. Arrange those three triangles around the circle to make Sonic’s trademark spiky hairdo. Now use blue paste color to tint homemade or store-bought vanilla frosting, and cover the entire cake.
Next, use store-bought or homemade fondant (you’ll find a simple marshmallow fondant recipe here) for the details on his face. Tint half the fondant beige (you can mix in a bit of the brown tube icing to get this color), leave the other half white, and roll each color out in a sheet. Cut out Sonic’s eyes in a figure-eight shape, and lay it on the cake. Then cut out the shape of his muzzle (nose and mouth) using the beige fondant, plus two triangles for his ears, and lay these on the cake. Finish by adding the details using the brown tube icing: pupils, nose, smile, and eyebrows. You can use the remaining white fondant to cut out a cartoon speech bubble, and write a birthday message using tube icing.
Sonic action figure cake
You can make a simple, effective Sonic birthday cake using toy action figures and posing them on a sheet cake. To keep it very quick and easy, simply frost a large sheet cake in the desired color and pose action figures, such as the All-Stars Racing Vehicle and figurine over the cake.
Sonic ice-cream and cookie presentation
Who says you have to serve cake at all? You can create a spectacular finale to the birthday party with this cookie-and-ice-cream dessert. Order Sonic the Hedgehog cookies online , or make them yourself using the technique described in the Sonic the Hedgehog party invitation article. Lay a cookie on top of two or three scoops of bright blue bubblegum or blue moon ice cream in a clear plastic cup, and stick a mini sparkler in each cup. Light the sparklers and bring them to the table as the guest sing “happy birthday.”
Simple Sonic cupcakes
These cupcakes are simple to make, but will still look spectacular and thrill your little guests—especially with the first surprise bite! Start by baking a batch of cupcakes using your favorite batter recipe or cake mix. Frost with bright blue frosting (for a really bright “Sonic” blue, use a paste color instead of the ordinary liquid kind). Next, sprinkle blue raspberry Pop Rocks candy on top. Now stick a Sonic the Hedgehog cake topper .
Sonic the Hedgehog Edible Cupcake Images
Another very easy cupcake idea is using edible image cake toppers where you simply transfer the image to a pre-baked and iced cupcake.
